1973-1974

During his musical career Oscar Alemán was a favorite artist on stages and radio programs. Many private recordings and air shots are among his musical heritage, but were seldom reissued on LP or CD and are only to be found in private collections. Only those private recordings, that are documented, will be listed here. If you have a private recording that is NOT in this list, and you think it should be, please contact me.

Durante su carrera musical, Oscar Alemán fué un artista favorita en escenarios y radios. Muchas grabaciones particulares y de programas de radio están dentro de su patrimonio musical, pero rara vez han sido editadas en LP o CD y se encuentran sólo en colecciones particulares. Sólo aquellas grabaciones particulares que están documentadas se listan aquí. Nosotros, (Oscar y yo) grabamos para el sello Redondel. El propietario del sello grabador me pidió si quería grabar con Oscar y mi big band. Acepté inmediatamente la propuesta y fuí al departamento de Oscar de la calle Maipú. Le pregunté que temas quería grabar. Para mi sorpresa me respondió: "Elígelos tú, ya que eres el arreglador". Así fué que elegí los temas que aparecieron en el disco, excepto que le pedí que tocara "Gabilu" un tema original mío dedicado a mi hija Gabriela. Fué muy cooperativo y nunca me ocasionó problemas. Tenía la reputación de ser una persona difícil de trabajar con él, pero mi experiencia fué exactamente lo contrario. Fué una persona muy amable y un gusto trabajar con él. Unas pocas fotos se tomaron durante las sesiones de grabación,pero esas fotos son propiedad del estudio. El disco fué grabado en los estudios Ion, de Fernando Gelbard. No hubo giras ni presentaciones con la big band debido principalmente a razones económicas. Lo único que se discutió fué un especial de TV con la orquesta y él, pero nunca se convirtió en realidad. Así que el disco es la única experiencia que tuvimos juntos. En 1974 grabó su último disco, un sólo de guitarra también para el sello Redondel y falleció en 1980.

We both (Oscar and me) were recording for Redondel Records. The owner of the company asked me if I would like to record with Oscar and my big band. I immediately accepted the proposal and I went to Aleman's apartment on Maipu Street. I asked him which tunes he would like to record. To my surprise, he answered "You make the choices. You are the arranger!" So I chose the tunes that you have on the record, except I asked him to play "Gabilu," an original of mine dedicated to my daughter Gabriela. He was very cooperative and never gave me any trouble. He had a reputation to be a difficult person to work with, but my experience was just the opposite. He was a very nice person to work with. Few pictures were taken during the recording session, but those pictures are the property of the recording company. The recording was done in the Fernando Gelbard Ion Studio. There was no tour with Oscar and the orchestra, basically for economic reasons. The only thing that was discussed was a TV special with the orchestra and him, but it never became a reality. So the recording is the only experience we had together. In 1974 he made his last recording, solo guitar for Redondel again and he passed away in 1980.
