The Waterberg Plateau is an enormous rock plateau in the middle of the country, north of Windhoek. It was declared a game park in 1972. The wilderness area is about 18.000 ha and it rises 200 m above the surrounding plains.

In the park you can find a variety of game: black and white rhino, buffalo, giraffe, elephants, antelope, lions, leopard and a lot of other game.

Led by an armed ranger you can look for game in the open fields. It's also possible to do a self-guided hiking trail. There are overnight facilities in the park. You must be alert because they're potentially dangerous animals such as rhino and buffalo.

We didn't have much time. The restcamp Bernabé de la Bat is luxuries with a restaurant, a shop, a filling station and a pool. In and around this camp there are a number of walking trails. We took one up the mountain but that roads led to nothing. There were warning signs to look out for snake lying in the sun. We didn't saw them but we saw a rare species of antelope the Damara dik-dik, world's smallest antelope. Also we saw a fence broken down : the animals could enter the campsite as easy as that. Lucky we didn't know that when we went to sleep the night before...
