IJspegel 6: Triple P wins first race of 2010

31-01-2010, Scheveningen (Ko Stroo)

After the winter break Triple P returned into the water on Thursday afternoon. Koen and Ko returned on Saturday to prepare the boat. Sunday morning we left the harbour in a cold 20 knots breeze and a confused sea state. We did some upwind practice and were satisfied with the mast tuning and the 110% medium genua.

The start turned out quite well; free wind and close to the starting vessel. We rounded the first upwind mark in 7th position; just behind the X-35s and the Rosetta. Downwind we topped 13.2 knots and rounded the downwind mark in third place! And nobody was complaining about the cold anymore...

Upwind we were able to defend our third place behind the Daikin and the Visione. Downwind we hoisted the big kite again and had a nice flight downwind; stretching the lead on the competition. After a very good spinnaker drop the last upwind leg was uneventful. Downwind was again very pleasant and we finished third.

The race committee wisely decided that one race was sufficient for these confused seas, strong winds and low temperatures. On corrected time we won the race with the Daikin 28 seconds and the Rosetta 3 minutes behind us.
