After a nice third place two weeks
ago Team Triple P was ready for the last IJspegel race. On a
beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon we went out for some
practice. First we did some tacks and a short spinnaker leg; but
when we wanted to join the two other Farr30 for some speed
training the mainsheet block broke. So we went back to fit a new
block and base plate.
Sunday we went out in a strong 18
knots northwesterly breeze, which would slowly decrease to 6
knots at the last finish. The first start was quite good, we
just reached the pin end, and were able to lee-bow the Daikin
after the start. We tried the left side, which was wrong, and
were second last at the top mark. At the downwind mark we messed
up our drop, so we lost our gains downwind and joined in at last
place. The remaining two laps we got back to a moderate sixth
place.
The second race we had a brilliant
start, but we lost some concentration and due to that also some
places in the upwind beat. The boat handling went smooth and we
extended our lead on the big IRC boats. However the other two
Farr30s were just out of reach. In the end we finished a nice
fourth place both on handicap as well as on rating. In the
overall IJspegel series we finished fifth, just above the Mumma
Duck. Daikin Airco won the series with supremacy.
