The transport to Deauville was flawless,
so we arrived as scheduled early Tuesday morning in Deauville. The boat
was lifted into the water and prepared for racing. By five o'clock the
rest of the crew arrived, finding the transport group resting in the
pool at the apartment.
Wednesday the lock opened at half past
twelve, so we went out for some training and tuning. We also
participated in the practice race at three o'clock, where we finished
second.
Thursday the first race was scheduled an
hour after the lock opened, so all the 12 mumm30 left as soon as the
lock opened at half past one. We sailed three races with a 7-8-7 result.
Not too bad, but not extremely good. Thursday only two races were sailed due
to a lack of wind, we finished a 6-8, just about the same as the day before.
But we were more satisfied with the boat speed.
Saturday we had a really good first race,
we were first at the top mark, finishing third in the end. Unfortunately
we started too soon (although we do not agree) and were disqualified.
The second race a dense fog made it difficult to even find the finish
line and therefore the last race was cancelled.
Deauville international week, J.M. Liot
The last day we sailed an amazingly amount
of five matches. The first we sailed a decent sixth place, the second we
totally screwed our tactics and finished last. By doing so
vanUden-TUDelft-vanOord finally officially beat us. Something they have been
training for all winter, and we were trying to postpone for the last
regatta's. The last three races we sailed a 4-7-9, of which the fourth
place was the top five finish we were aiming at.
In the general ranking we were 10th in the
professional ranking and 5th in the owner driver ranking. The other
Dutch mumm30, vanUden-TUDelft-vanOord finished 12th and the British
Asterix-Joules won the event.
