After six weeks we were finally able to sail a proper serie. After many
weekends with 30+ knots of wind this weekend we got some excellent
sailing. The training on Saturday was cancelled again due to heavy wind,
but this gave us the change to prepare the boat in detail for the
IJspegel on Sunday.
After the last IJspegel we were a lot more focused this time. This
resulted in a very good first start and we were among the first at the
top mark. The most interesting competition in group 1 had already left
the course. The other mumm30, vanUden-TUDelft, broke their forestay, and
the high performance 30-footer from Dubai, V1, had sail and rudder
problems. Downwind we broached ones, but were able to regain control
very fast. Other boats had equal problems and with speeds over 15 knots
we were first at the downwind mark. We extended our lead over the race
and finished 3.5 minutes before Daikin.
The second race we had a very good start again. After a solid first
upwind beat we were first at the upwind mark. This was quite an
achievement since we have the smallest boat in group one! Downwind we
made no mistakes, achieving a top speed of 15.4 knots. Again the wind
was quite strong, between 20 and 25 knots from the south. We led the
entire race and had line honours for a second time. We managed this even
though we had to sail half of the last downwind leg without spinnaker
because the mast fitting of the spinnaker pole had broken.
Logically we are really satisfied with the result; finishing first on
the water twice, as the smallest boat in the fleet, and also scoring two
first places on handicap!
