European Championship: Pitman in Hospital

21.14 h. 06-06-2006, Deauville (Daan Lammers)

Weather: Sunny 24 C and 15 knots of wind. Lifting the boat in the water and raising the mast took us two days. After preparing the boat we also had to measure the sails, including our new Quantum light spinnaker.

Sadly, this afternoon, our training schedule was distorted by the appendix of Joost. After a few days of fever and pain in the lower part of his stomach, an appendicitis was discovered in the local hospital. He will be operated tomorrow. Clearly he is in no condition to compete in the European Championship, which will start this Thursday. Luckily Evert Jansen can come to France to take his place. Evert will arrive Wednesday at noon in Deauville City. Evert will take the position of Joost, as pitman. He has sailed with our team in previous regattas.

Due the tide-lock in the port our first training with the “new crew” will be at Wednesday evening. Tomorrow morning we’ll go out and do some sail testing.
