Peter Smeet’s
Grantura – Unknown3

I have a Mk
2 or 2A Grantura. It has a MG 1600cc engine. I bought it in 1989 and it
previously lived in the UK. The owner was David Ewart-Smith. Reg No 703RNU. I contacted
him in Feb 1993, and confirmed it was his car. I read a letter in the Feb 1993
TVR Club magazine - where he was enquiring after his old car. I have completely
restored the car and am currently reassembling it. Sadly I have no chassis
plates to help identify my car. It has the left-hand-drive Ford 100E Prefect
steering box still. I have upgraded the front brakes to discs, and have fitted
15" Minilite knock-off wheels. I would love to hear from anyone who could
help with further history of my car. I have now found out my car was first registered in the UK April
1961...so it is probably Mk2. It was Dark Brown. I have started work in earnest
now on my TVR. I have purchased an alloy cross-flow head and Webers. The
original one I had was not economically repairable, so I bought a new
reproduction. I have sourced an alloy petrol tank to suit. I
plan to build my car as a replica of the cars sent to Sebring to race. I would
love to hear from anyone with photos of those team cars - especially ones
showing details of interiors etc. I will keep you informed, and hope to send
some photos of completed car by end of the Australian summer around April 2008.
