Norris Haynes's Grantura - 8645

Last updated - 17-11-02

1963 Grantura MKIII. Chassis number: 8/645. This car was a retired race car when purchased by Norris in the mid-1980's and had been partially stripped with no glass or rear window. Body damage to the left rear had been poorly patched.  Norris repaired and restored the car back to vintage race specifications and competed for 4-5 years in vintage sports car races in the Southeast US. The car was retired to his basement garage about 1995.  Beginning year 2002 Norris is undertaken the restoration of the car back to roadworthy condition and expects to have it ready for street use by the Spring of 2003.  (Norris is known regionally for his Morgan restorations as well as his craftsmanship on various other English cars. In addition, he is an accomplished artist and is in demand for his watercolor renditions of sports cars and vintage aircraft. Presently, the bonnet and underbonnet areas are nearly complete, the suspension has been reconditioned, the 1800cc MGB engine detuned for street use, and work on interior components is underway. A new headliner has been made and the seats and dash will be covered in a mauve (grayish) fabric.  The color was formerly a deep, almost maroon red. The original color is unknown.  The new exterior color is as yet undecided.
