Hal Monheim’s Grantura – 8136
Last
updated - 30/03/2011
I recently purchased what I believe to be an early TVR Grantura III. It is defientely
a III, because it has the III suspension. The car is an unrestored survivor converted for vintage racing sometime??
in the past. The car has NO RUST as it spent most of its lifetime in
southern California. I cannot find a numberplate
on the body (not sure where to look). Prior registrations bear the numbers
"DRF80136". Where can I find the correct chasis
numbers to be included into the registry?
This car has a 1622 with Derrington cross flow
head. Nor sure if this is the original motor. One of the items I am
looking for is a intake manifold for the Derrinton
head using weber carbs. Specifically
I am looking for the intake with the "TVR" letters cast in.
Update 2010:
The car is such an early Mark III it has many Mark II body
details.
The car was restored in 2010. The restoration took six months
and was done to a very high standard with cost being of no
object. The no rust frame (Southern California) was
already sound, all mechanicals were gone through to produce an
extremely reliable race car. Every effort was made to make the car appear
as period correct as possible. The car now sports a highly
modified 1800cc MGB engine with Derrington cross-flow
head, webers, close ratio MGA transmission and Quaife LSD in the rearend.
Attached are a few photos of the restoration and first race event.
The car's first race was the 2010 Rolex Monterey Motorsports
Reunion. The car is actively vintage road raced in the USA and has been
accepted to the most prestigious events in North America. The crowd loves
the car's performance, uniqueness and beautiful restoration.
