Are you ready for a whole new Quake Experience? I can't get enough of the gladiator style dueling of Arena Quake being developed by a team of PlanetQuaker's led by Termy the planetQuake ServerMeister. The concept is simple: 2 players enter the arena and everyone watches the duel to the death. As soon as one is killed the next person in line is automagically transported into the arena and a 10 second countdown begins. It rocks!
The background on this is that Termy stumbled across a map by Clan NTS
that featured an arena and a waiting room. There were a number of
problems with it, but if everyone played by the rules it was *really* fun.
I can almost hear Termy chanting "Two men enter, one man leaves"
over and over again. Inspired perhaps by way too many viewings of Spartacus
(imagine Termy as the young Tony Curtis giving Kirk Douglas a sponge bath)
a team of mappers anda boy-genius coder (CRT of KeyGrip) came together
to create the ultimate Arena Quake modification.
The coding is almost complete, and now we're simply waiting on a few more maps to be submitted. Go to our Rocket Arena page, check out the Map Contest and jump on one of rocket arena servers. A full release is anticipated within the week! While this type of duel probably isn't for everyone, I suspect that you will be hearing a lot more about this style of Quake in the future.
