My name is Huib Marsman. I was born in 1939 in Indonesia, which was a Dutch colony by then.
In 1951 I came to Holland, went to school for Ship's Engineering and after that I sailed a couple of years as an engineer. After my sailing period I have worked for a prolonged period on several oil-refineries.
At the engineer's school they taught me to make technical drawings, I never had any other education in the field of drawing and painting.
In fact I started painting after my son was killed in a car accident in 1992. The paintings I made in the first years after, all reflected my feelings; they had a meaning and became a bit mystical so to say.
It appeared that painting was a great help for me to get in terms with my sorrow.
After a couple of years I started to paint all kind of other things; thus it gave me more and more pleasure and I got more and more experience in painting.
