dEUS + Expatriate + Parenthetical Girls
013, Tilburg, December 7, 2008

dEUS played 013, in my hometown Tilburg, on Sunday the 7th of December. I met up with Eva at the station and together we walkcycled to the venue. We arrived way too early, but that gave us some time to catch up and have a couple of drinks. Plus: no crowd at the cloakroom!

dEUS were supported by Expatriate, who weren't very exciting (note: understatement of the century). The one good thing about them, was that their bassplayer wasn't too ugly and didn't seem to have unwashed hair like the rest of the band.

You can't really see it here, but he wore a scarf that was stuffed in the pocket on his chest at the end. Practical? I don't really dig men with scarves though, reminds me too much of Marco Borsato.

Anyway, after some re-checking etc. dEUS finally came up. It was about to be the third time I saw them this year, but they still managed to keep me thrilled till the end of the show! Good audience, decent setlist, a band that appeared to be in good shape, joke possibilities, nice.

A few days before, they played a number of shows in Paradiso where they were joined by De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig (Youtube). No Jeugd in Tilburg though, but they joked around with some samples and Tom started singing "Je kijkt oh zo zuur naar m'n haute couture want m'n haute couture is oh zo duur" through one of their songs, lol.

(Am I the only one who thinks he looks like Stalin with a guitar in this picture?)

At some point during the show, Tom bumped his nose into the mircophone and asked for a tissue. This guy in front of me (who was bit smelly btw but apparently clean enough to bring a pack of tissues) threw them at him. Then Mauro requested a kerstboom, but no one brought one. Sad.

Video timeee (Slow)

The conversion from Nothing Really Ends to Bad Timing is one of the most brilliant things I've ever heard. I filmed that as well, but Youtube rejected it because it was too long. I don't really mind though, because I was singing along and you can hear it througout the video. Don't want anyone to have to suffer that!

When the show was done (after a long encore!), there was little afterparty in the small room, where Parenthetical Girls were playing.

They were quite good! At first everyone was talking (you know, Dutch crowds and their inability to shut up?) but when the singer started to cross the entire room, beating against the walls with drumsticks and eventually disappearing towards the toilets, still playing and singing, he managed to get everyone's attention. Promising band!
