Art Brut + Black Wire
Melkweg, Amsterdam, June 10th, 2007

Anneke and I arrived at the Melkweg around 7:45 PM, assuming we'd be late but the doors weren't even open yet. Black Wire started at half past 8 and the venue was pretty empty, at least not as sold-out-packed as it was during Maxïmo Park.

Apparently there are 4 bandmembers! I thought there were only three of them... The singer spent a LOT of time in the audience, walking around, he was quite small so he easily got lost :P but I really loved their set, too bad they didn't play a lot of songs I knew.. so probably a lot of new songs. One was particularly great: HOUSE, I filmed it:

I also have an audio rip of it if anyone's interested... you can see the singer throwing his show in the audience, that was at Eddie Argos (he was also watching them).

When they were finished we almost bumped into the Five O'Clock Heroes (or at least, a couple of them) on our way to the bathroom.

Then, Art Brut! Probably one of the funniest gigs I ever attended. Eddie Argos is amazing and so is the rest of the band. They had so much energy (esp. mr. Future) and even though they pretend to be some crappy "we-just-formed-a-band-for-fun" they're actually really good. Especially the new songs are more melodic and even though lyrically they're not as hilarious as their debut, they've definitely gotten ahead.

They played a lot of songs, some new and old stuff and Eddie changed the lyrics quite often, during one song (Emily Kane?) he just stopped and started talking about Jay-Z and how he has 99 problems but a bitch ain't one and ohh it just was hilarious. Also a lot of references to Black Wire (Black Wire, top of the pops!) and how you should make your parents worry about you (take Black Wire on tour with you...) and how we really need to form a band.

Not a great video, but in my opinion a good impression of the show:

Too bad this old guy just started to jump in front of me during the last song... Oh well.
