I bought the car on 17th August 1979, it
had been lying in a grass verge on the Coniston to Broughton road in the Lake
District, England for many years. I knocked on the door of the nearby house,
found the owner and bought it. I was 20 at the time and my Mum & Dad where
away on holiday. They returned to find a rotting heap in their garage. When I
stripped it down there where major problems, the rear chassis had been cut out
and replaced with a 1.5" box section chassis with a live axle, bolted onto
the original chassis. The rear wheel arches had been cut out, the roof had been
cut out. The suspension arms where worn through etc etc. It was also fitted
with an MGB 1800 engine, which I retained.
I found
another car beyond repair in a scrapyard near Preston, England (the orange one
in the pictures)which had a roof albeit smashed off, the wheel arches in one
piece and the rear wheels, suspension, transmission etc. (No idea of the serial
number, but I think I have the registration number somewhere)I spent the next
18 months spending all my spare time rebuilding it, and used it for about a
year. I then ended up working abroad. The car has not been on the road since. It
is in need of restoring again, however it will not be as big a task as the
first time!
