HEILLE

is a little village southwest of 'Aardenburg'. It's a remaining of the old village, which
was also called 'Zanddijk'. Once there was also a community 'Nieuw Heille'
(new heille) about 2 km northwest of the old 'Heille', also known as 'Ronduit'.
The name 'Ronduit' was originally from 'redoute' (= kind of fortress).

'Oud Heille' and 'Nieuw Heille' were seperated by water :
the 'Stierskreek'.
South of the 'Kruisdijk' or 'Kruisschans' there was a connection between both sides of the land.

Heille was an independant 'gemeente'(=minicipal) from 1796 untill 1880.
Then it became part of the 'gemeente Sluis'.
